Alligators, snakes and swamps, oh my!

Yes, it is me posting again. Let's just say it has been a long, random and unexpected week. Planning here is often done last minute and therefore planning to write blogs ahead of time does not often work out.
Working at the camp has been quite an experience. It is so neat to see all the kids and to hang out with them. I work with the 5-7 year olds and some of them have stolen my heart. Right now there are 125 5-7 year olds registered for camp and only about 12 counselors so at times it is quite frustrating. I just want to give each kid the attention they crave but I find myself worrying about what the other 20 kids in my group are doing. Some have to go to the bathroom, one is constantly asking for candy, some are looking bored out of their mind and others are playing with the scissors or the crayons they find on the ground. It is so hectic and I am often frustrated with the other counselors. But I know that all I can do is do the best that I can.

Going to camp at 6:30 in the morning till about 1:30 and even staying till 3:00 because of staff meetings can get very arduous at times. So there is also some fun thrown in.Yesterday we all got to go with the Spicers (a family us girls stayed with) and tour a swamp. And if any of you know Alisha, this has been one of her main goals in coming to Louisiana. We saw about 10 to 15 alligators, rode through 1-2feet water on air boats and saw snakes and fish and other creatures. Did you know that bears and deer live in the swamp area? We did not see any but we definitely were surprised to hear that from our guide. It was an experience that none of us will forget. What was also neat was that the Spicers had never done this before. So it was a new event for all of us.
We are all moved into new houses. The girls are staying with a woman by the name of Shirley Robinson. She is the sweetest lady ever. She is probably almost 70 but she drives a 4-door chevy truck. I am so looking forward to getting to know her over the next two weeks.
The boys are staying with the Voekles. They live on a huge piece of land and it is beautiful. There is a man made lake in their front yard, a river not to far away and beautiful grassy and foresty land.

That is where we congregated today after church. It was a well needed rest for all of us.

I am not going to lie I am getting homesick. It has been two weeks and we are still going to be here another four weeks. I am so excited for what God has in store for me and the rest of our group but I also would not mind seeing my family.

Thank you for your continual prayer and support.

That sounded like a very full week! Loving up those little kids must have really been fun and challenging- good job, all of you. Yes, we are sending lots of love your way, and remember to keep hugging each other.
Jane: Your sister keeps trooping through the gatorhood library with her primetime kids. I gave her the address so that she could read along, too. I'll hug her next time she sashays through especially from you.
