Last night we said goodbye to our fearless leader. After dropping her off at the airport, our group decided to go see what the city of New Orleans was like. We had some fun with new friends, Dominic (spelled wrong?) and Deidra (ditto) eating sandwiches and walking around the French Quarter.
But as we made our way down Bourbon street, I was surprised to feel an overwhelming sense of sadness. Watching people "living it up" in one of the greatest cities in America as they poured as much alchol into their bodies as they could and then proceeded to one of the literally dozens of strip clubs in a three block area made me realize how lost our world really is. Voodoo shops and fortune tellers lined the street advertising demonic powers.
I found myself walking through crowds of hundreds of people that were spiritually lost, knowing nothing of Jesus Christ and heading towards an eternity without him. And this filled me with a great compassion and just sadness for these people. A sadness at how evil and lost our world has become. I pray that I will continue to have this compassion for people and pray for the opportunity to reach this community for Christ through any means possible. I think Bourbon street is just a representative of how much this world needs Jesus and i pray that more and more people experience the good news before Christ returns and judgement is passed.
1But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth
